When I sat down to write my ALT Summit recap, I thought “Where do I start?”. I guess at the beginning… From the moment we stepped into the hotel there was a constant outpouring of creativity and information. Every little detail was cared for… the decked out sponsor lounges, stylish vignettes for private talks, over-the-top mini-parties, successful bloggers sharing every bit of their knowledge and even tampons in the bathrooms! Since this was my first time at ALT, it was just a tad overwhelming. When I say a “tad” I’m lying, it was quite a lot. I was also not feeling my personal best, which is totally unfortunate. BUT for one, you can’t help when you are sick and for two, when I stopped moping about all I was missing out, I realized I still got so much out of the conference. So here we go…
I made an instant friend with my roommate, Amy from Design Lotus. Not only is she crazy talented, she is crazy sweet and took such good care of me while I was sick. We had our first (of many, I’m sure) Google Hangouts yesterday and it was so fun talking about the conference and how we were going to utilize the information we got. She will definitely be that kick in the a$$ I need when I’m not holding myself accountable. See, Amy…I did my recap post!
Secondly, being at these kinds of conferences is overwhelming as I mentioned, yet it is also very refreshing, rejuvenating and inspiring. These people GET me. And seeing all of the amazing things they are doing in their lives only makes me want to do amazing things in my life as well as reaffirming why I do what I do. I spent the better part of yesterday designing and making a big decision for the business. (Sorry to be vague, but more on that later…) It felt SOOOOOOOO good to do that. I often worry about…well, everything, but mainly that I’m going to make the wrong move. But really, not moving at all is the wrong move. As most of Seth Godin’s daily reminders seem to say, you can make the safe choice and go the same route as everyone else or you can be daring and step off the path. ALT was exactly the push I needed to step off the path and I will be forever grateful.
While at ALT, I was able to reconnect with some old friends and make new ones. While I was bed-bound for a good bit of the conference, I was able to meet some really awesome chicks when I wasn’t. Below is my list of some cool ladies you should know. And below that are some pretty pictures from ALT. Because that’s what you really want to see, don’t lie.
Amanda– A Life Well Lived: Amanda and I met at the La Crema dinner on Wednesday night. She likes red wine as much as me so we will be friends for life. She is also a super talented chef (even though she humbly calls herself a cook) and smart. I’m excited to try some of her recipes! This girl is going places so you will definitely want to follow her.
Erica – P.S. I Made This: Not only does Erica use one of my favorite phrases “P.S.”, but she is wicked funny, charming and one-of-a-kind. I probably enjoyed her breakout the best; it really resonated with me and lit a fire! If you’re into DIYs, she shares a ton of really awesome and feminine tutorials every day. She also gifted us her newest book, P.S. You’re Invited, which I’m really excited to dive into!
Carmen – The Flair Exchange: Coincidentally, I had just received one of Carmen’s totally adorable tinsel garland kits I ordered from Shop Sweet Lulu for Wyatt’s birthday. When she told me the name of her business, I was like…wait, I know you! Carmen is equal parts sweet, savvy and stylish. I love her products, because they totally align with my party style. I’m excited to have her as a new friend and hoping we can work together soon! She shares fabulous party tips and tutorials as well, so definitely check her out!
Melissa – Melissa Creates: I met Melissa and Carmen at the La Crema dinner as well, but really got to know them both better on the flight home. Melissa has a bubbly personality that makes you feel like you’ve known each other forever. She has an awesome blog where she talks about parties, DIY and all things fabulous. Melissa also puts on BlogFete, a weekend conference to motivate, educate and connect local bloggers in Orlando, Florida. If you’re close by you should definitely check it out. I can tell she puts on what heck of a party!
Kristin – Modish and Main: Kristin is super adorable and has a great style she shares on her blog about how to live a stylized life. I’ve really enjoyed following her Instagram feed and while we didn’t get to spend a ton of time together at ALT I hope to get to know her better through our blogs.
Erin – Pippin and Pearl/CooperHouse: Erin is a fellow Oklahoma blogger and I was really excited to meet her. I’ve been following her for a while now so its always fun to meet your favorite bloggers IRL (in real life.) She’s crazy talented and very funny. She draws, paints, designs and builds amazing brands through CooperHouse. I’m hoping we can meet up soon in the city!
